Introduction

Management Information Systems (MIS) help businesses run more efficiently by improving how they manage data, make decisions, and complete daily operations. This project explores how Claire’s, a global fashion and accessories retailer, uses MIS to strengthen its operations and remain competitive in today’s evolving retail landscape.

Our team analyzed Claire’s business practices, focusing on the role of technology in key areas such as sales, marketing, inventory management, and employee operations. One of our team members, Claire Dias, visited a local Claire’s store and interviewed the store manager. The manager provided helpful insight into how the company manages daily operations, staffing, and the digital tools used to support those functions.

Claire’s operates over 2,300 stores worldwide and is well-known for offering a variety of accessories, jewelry, and ear piercing services, primarily targeted at teens and young adults. To develop a well-rounded perspective on the company, we used a combination of online research and information gathered from the in-store interview.

We focused specifically on how Claire’s uses point-of-sale (POS) systems to process transactions and social media to engage with customers. We also looked into inventory control systems, employee training programs, and methods for loss prevention to understand both the strengths and challenges the company faces in its daily operations. In the following sections of this report, we will discuss Claire’s business strategy, its key business processes, and how MIS supports the company’s overall success. We will also present recommendations to help Claire’s further improve its operations and stay ahead in the fast-paced retail industry.
